DONATION POLICY AND GUIDELINES
The Khaled Hosseini Foundation is both honored and humbled to accept donations in any amount to help us assist women, children and families in Afghanistan. If you are interested in helping, you may either make a donation directly to one of our Grantees or make a tax-deductible donation to The Khaled Hosseini Foundation. The below policy and guidelines are applicable for donations to The Khaled Hosseini Foundation.
-
The Foundation accepts gifts that are targeted to programs announced by the Foundation. All other gifts must be unrestricted, not earmarked for specific purposes and without conditions or contingencies.
-
All gifts we receive which do not specifically identify a program announced by the Foundation will be treated as contributions to the general fund. We cannot make a commitment to spend donations according to specific donor restrictions, other than gifts which identify an announced Foundation program.
-
We accept donations online and by check; but we will not accept donations by telephone.
-
We accept only U.S. currency.
-
We do not offer public recognition for gifts we receive, although the names of those who contribute $5,000 or more will be included on our 990 tax form to satisfy tax laws.
-
Except as may be announced by the Foundation in connection with a particular Foundation program, contributions do not give donors special access to the Foundation's founder or staff.
-
Contributions do not entitle donors to participate in Foundation decision making.
-
Except as may be announced by the Foundation in connection with a particular Foundation program, no goods or services are provided in return for donations.
The Foundation is a private foundation rather than a public charity, and the rules governing the tax deductibility of gifts to private foundations are different than those for public charities. Donors may want to consult their tax advisor before making a donation.
We reserve the right to decline donations even if they meet these guidelines, to change these guidelines at any time, and to make exceptions to these guidelines in special circumstances.
In accordance with California Business and Professions Code Section 17510.3, we disclose to you that your donations will be used to further the charitable purposes of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, 5655 Silver Creek Valley Road, #203, San Jose, CA 95138. Subject to your personal tax circumstances, your gift is eligible to be deducted as a charitable contribution under federal and state law. For information specific to your situation, please consult your tax advisor.
