Over three decades of war have made
Afghanistan one of the poorest countries
in the world and has brought on the
world's largest refugee crisis in the last
century. More than 8 million people have
fled the country while 5 million have
returned home since the overthrow of
the Taliban. One of the most critical
needs returnees face is shelter from the
harsh winters and brutal summers.
The Khaled Hosseini Foundation,
a 501©(3) nonprofit provides
humanitarian assistance for the people of
Afghanistan. The Foundation works with
the United Nations refugee organization
to build shelters for refugee families. It
also provides economic opportunities,
education, and healthcare for women
and children of Afghanistan.

Splendid Suns. We also provide a
free Service Learning program, which
empowers schools to raise funds to
build shelters for refugees.
The curriculums are linked to national
standards, videos, research journals,
maps, slideshows and more.
A new curriculum for Khaled's new book,
And the Mountains Echoed, will be
