Khaled Speaks at Cameron University

Cameron University's Academic Festival - “Afghanistan: Its Complexities and Relevance”

On August 30th, Cameron University kicked off its triennial Academic Festival, “Afghanistan: Its Complexities and Relevance,” with a moderated stage conversation featuring Khaled Hosseini, best-selling author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. The event was moderated by Cameron University’s president, Cindy Ross with a reception and book signing following the discussion.  During the event Khaled spoke about his experiences growing up in Afghanistan and returning as an adult, as well as the importance his foundation, The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, plays in his continuing relationship with his homeland.  See the link within to access video from the event.

Putting the FUN in Fundraising!

Are you interested in holding a fundraiser for TKHF?  If so, there are a wide array of options available from hosting a dinner or silent auction to collecting donations for a sponsored athletic event.  The options are seemingly endless and only limited by your imagination. We do suggest a few tips to make your fundraiser successful while allowing you to enjoy your event.

  • Whether your event is large or small, ensure it is well publicized for a healthy turnout.  For example, consider contacting your local media, utilize social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and your contact lists to get the word out.
  • Sell tickets or collect donations for your event up front to minimize stress on the day of your event. To ensure a seamless event, remember to collect contributions via check so that they can be sent to TKHF (all checks can be made out to TKHF). Please note that we cannot accept any donations from a fundraising event via credit card.
  • Solicit the help of others to decorate, promote, or otherwise assist you with your event.
  • Utilize our website for information about TKHF, the work we do, and how the contributions we receive change lives, to make your event more meaningful for your attendees.
  • Relax and enjoy your event. When you are having fun so will your guests!
